What is llms.txt?

llms.txt is a Markdown file at the root of a website that tells language models, in a curated way, who the operator is, what it offers and which pages carry its most important statements.
The layout follows a fixed format: an H1 with the name, a blockquote as the framing sentence, then H2 sections with link lists in the format "- [Title](URL): note". Unlike the sitemap, which lists everything, the file curates: it points to the ten to thirty pages where the citable answers live.
The file is a proposal, not a W3C standard. Its effect is nonetheless practical: major AI crawlers fetch it as soon as it exists, and it helps decide which pages a model finds at all.
Why it matters for the mid-market
The effort is minutes, not weeks: whoever maintains an llms.txt chooses which pages AI systems see as a source, instead of leaving that to the crawler. Our generator builds the file from a few inputs.
